3D façade structure waterwave
The new triple sports hall for the town of Herdorf has a usable area of 2,200 square meters. For the striking 3D façade of the sports hall, 1,800 square meters of perforated aluminium sheet with a thickness of three millimetres were used. Thanks to the 3D-formed sheets, the façade structure creates a constantly changing play of light shadows, similar to a water wave.
Technical execution
The structural properties and low weight of the perforated sheet material enable a lightweight façade construction that permanently protects the building from the effects of the weather. Thanks to the high strength of the 3D-formed perforated aluminum sheets, the façade can also withstand extreme wind loads.
Design
For the striking 3D façade of the sports hall, 1,800 square meters of perforated aluminium sheet with a thickness of three millimetres were supplied by SCHÄFER Perforated Metal. Thanks to the variety of perforation patterns and the mechanical 3D formability, this material can be used to meet highly individual style requirements.
3D plate
The used product is 3D plate "Waterwave Herdorf" - which was specially developed for this project. The "Water Wave Herdorf" is a combination of two different wave forms that merge into one another.
Surface finish
At the request of the town of Herdorf, the 3D façade was coated with baked powder coating in sand gold matt by the company HD Wahl. The color, which shimmers silver to gold depending on the incidence of light, is based on the pyrite rock native to Herdorf.
Perforation
The perforations in the façade, which are barely visible from the outside, allow natural light to enter through the approximately 200 m² of glazing behind. Seen from the inside, the seemingly closed façade looks like a light curtain against the backdrop of nature and the town of Herdorf.
